View detailed profile Advanced or search site with Search Forums Advanced. Hi: I'm researching places to relocate to, and considering Houston.
I'm in my mid 40's, not terribly into nightclubs and bars the typical gay scene in most cities- nothing against it, it's just not that important to meand I like a larger house with a pool, etc. What's life for LGBT specifically in the communities? Also, Sugar land seems to come up on my search often. Interested, or surrounding similar areas.
From what I'm gathering from threads here, the older and emerging "gayborhoods" are mentioned, which seem really expensive, but very little or no info on other areas. I'm trying to determine what day-to-day life is like in these suburbs I. Also, what the commute like to downtown Houston areas for a job, etc.?
Thanks for any insight! Your sexuality is your own business. Originally Posted by Oildog. North Lake. As a gay male, i would never buy in those areas. They are essentially Mega-Church dominated life-styles.

The commute is similar to Los Angeles: bumper to bumper at 05 mph. I'm between downtown and galleria. I agree with North Lake, stay inside the inner loop or right around it. People generally mind their own business here. I lived in Spring and was always open about my sexuality and never had any problems though granted I can usually "pass", while one of my friends who has more flamboyant mannerisms got a few stares and snickers from some high school brats at a restaurant we were eating at.
Your mileage may vary. Scottsdude, to answer your question: stay inside the loop. The outter burbs are not what I would call gay friendly. The best you would hope to get is indifference.
