When I was 18, there was nothing for gay people. When Jen first moved to Cork she frequented a gay bar called Instinct and found there was gay issue with being gay in a busy city.
There was a cork of group support that club gay in Tralee lacked. Jen says prior to Vibe, there was no official gay bar even in Munster. I play in a band and we take bookings for weddings and events like that. But running a bar is going to be different. I plan to twin the two jobs.
Jen says while there are pop up gay events that take place regularly in Cork, not having a permanent venue is at odds with the vibrancy of the gay community in the city. Even when I announced the news that Vibe gay opening online, many of the things that were said about me were awful. I want to make people feel safe and that they can go somewhere to meet someone, or whatever.
Life is good for Jen at the moment as she gets set to open her club while looking ahead to getting married to Caroline in April.
